Twelve civil society organizations and their partners are grant recipients through the “Citizens Against Corruption” program, and will implement projects aimed at increasing transparency, accountability and a culture of integrity, with a special focus on involving citizens in the fight against corruption.

In the next two years, these projects for involving citizens in anti-corruption initiatives will be implemented by the following organizations:

3. The Metamorphosis Foundation for Internet and Society in partnership with the Association for the Advancement of Journalistic Practices Innovative Media
4. Konekt Association
5. Transparency International-Macedonia in partnership with the Platform for investigative journalism and analysis (PINA)
6. ATO – Center for Contemporary Culture and Art, Bitola
7. Association for Environmentally Sustainable Development GREEN INSTITUTE in partnership with the Association for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development “Sunrise”
8. Macedonian Civic Education Center (MCEC)
9. The PolioPlus Society–Post-Polio Support Group in partnership with HOPS–Healthy Options Project Skopje
10. The Macedonian Human Resource Association
11. Association for Sustainable Development Milieukontakt Macedonia in partnership with the The Association for Development, Education and Ecological Ethics Polymath 13, Bogdanci
12. Association for Democratic Initiatives, Gostivar, in partnership with Forum Center for Strategic Research and Documentation
With a total fund of around 40 million denars, these organizations will work on projects covering various topics, including improving accountability in higher education, transparency and monitoring of courts, fighting corruption at the local level, strengthening the private sector, as well as improving ethical standards in the healthcare sector.
Some of the projects are aimed at raising awareness about environmental corruption, and include innovative methods such as theater, and engaging young people as active participants and future leaders in anti-corruption activities. Initiatives will also be implemented to support citizens in exercising their rights and encourage them to report cases of corruption.

This call for grants received 62 applications, of which 59 successfully passed the administrative review and were accepted for further evaluation. After a detailed assessment by an expert committee, 12 project proposals were selected that are expected to contribute to the long-term strengthening of an anti-corruption culture and to encourage civic engagement as a basis for change in different sectors of society.

The “Citizens Against Corruption” program is implemented by the Macedonian Center for International Cooperation (MCIC) in partnership with the Center for Civil Communications (CCC), The Institute for Democracy “Societas Civilis“ Skopje (IDSCS), The Economic Chamber of North Macedonia (ECNM), 360 Degrees, The Investigative Reporting Laboratory (IRL) Macedonia and the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network.
