As part of the USAID Civic Engagement Project, the Metamorphosis Foundation organized an online event to promote the Open City Initiative. The event took place on 15 September 2020. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness and increase the knowledge of various stakeholders about the Open City Initiative. The opening speech was given by Qendresa Sulejmani, Program Director at the Metamorphosis Foundation, and the Initiative was presented by Marija Nikoloska Arsovska, its coordinator. The guest of the event was Viktor Mitevski from the Association for Research and Analysis-ZMAI who talked about the ways of involving stakeholders in creating an Open City. The event was attended by representatives of municipalities and civil society organizations who discussed the importance of the Initiative and the benefits of its implementation.

The Open City Initiative aims to transform cities into more transparent, open and accessible organizations that are in constant contact with citizens and continuously work toward meeting their needs. An open city is a model for advancing the operation of cities by creating a new, more democratic local infrastructure of openness and partnership with all who have a stake in working and creating a better future in cities: individual residents, community organizations, city administration, policymakers and international partners.

In the coming period, the Metamorphosis Foundation, within the USAID Civic Engagement Project, will hold several online events and focus on various aspects related to this concept such as tools and best practices for “Open City”, open data, open government at the local level and citizen participation in decision-making and policy-making processes at the local level. The following events will be held:

  • 21 September 2020, 12:00, event on the topic: Citizens’ participation in decision-making and policy-making processes at the local level, speaker: Kristina Jovanova, OSCE Mission to Skopje
  • 25 September 2020, 12:00, event: Open Data and Stakeholder Involvement Workshop, speaker: Nathan Coyle, New Union – UK
