The Internet Freedom Summit, which took place in Struga from June 24 to 28, 2024, opened with the panel discussion Protecting Humanity in a Digital Landscape organized by the Metamorphosis Foundation.

This discussion was conducted in the form of a conversation about the ethical implications of human rights online and human dignity when designing technological solutions built on algorithms and artificial intelligence, emphasizing the creation of “good technology” that respects privacy, promotes non-discrimination, transparency, and truly meets the diverse needs of all categories of citizens.

This discussion also discussed the findings of the Research on the Effect of New Technologies, with a Particular Focus on Artificial Intelligence, on Human Rights on the Internet conducted by the Metamorphosis Foundation, as well as the ethical standards for the protection of human rights on the Internet during automated decision-making proposed by the research.

The discussion moderated by Mila Josifovska Danilovska from the Metamorphosis Foundation was conducted with the participation of Elena Stojanovska, an expert in personal data protection and co-author of the research, and Prof. Aleksandar Karadimche from the University of Information Science and Technology “St. Paul the Apostle” – Ohrid.

The message that was sent through this discussion is that by addressing these critical ethical concerns, we can work toward a future where technology serves to empower and include, rather than marginalize or invade different segments of our society.
