The Platform of Civil Society Organizations in the Fight against Corruption strongly condemns the denial of public access to information from the Treasury and demands that the “Open Finance” portal be immediately restored to function.
The Platform of Civil Society Organizations in the Fight against Corruption requests the Ministry of Finance to enable unhindered access, continuous and timely updating of data on the “Open Finance” portal and their availability in an open format, as has been the practice so far.
The “Open Finance” portal, which publishes data on the realization of transactions of all budget users of the Budget of the Republic of North Macedonia, was last updated on 17.6.2024. In accordance with the commitments undertaken within the framework of the Open Government Partnership and previous practice, the data on the portal is updated twice a month, which means that the portal has not performed its function for more than two months.
As a reminder, the introduction of the “Open Finance” portal is one of the most significant reforms that promotes proactive transparency of state institutions. As part of the Open Government Partnership, this activity was assessed as an effort with an ambitious design and successful implementation that introduced exceptional changes in institutional practices.
The Platform reminds the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia that during the election campaign it promised to increase the number of open data and their updating. With the current state of “Open Finance”, the Platform fears that the process is moving in the opposite direction.
Sincerely,
Platform of Civil Society Organizations in the Fight against Corruption
