Decoding disinformation: Regional mapping of disinformation and civil society in the Western Balkans

As part of the Digital Activism Program, led by TechSoup in collaboration with regional partners, we present the 2023-2024 Regional Disinformation and Civil Society Mapping Reports. These reports focus on four key regions in Central and Eastern Europe: the Western Balkans, the Visegrad region, the Black Sea region and the Baltics. Each report provides a comprehensive analysis of disinformation trends, the influence of external actors, the war in Ukraine, and the unique challenges civil society organizations in these regions face, as well as the needs they have in order to effectively carry out their mission.

Since 2018, TechSoup’s Digital Activism Program and its partners in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and beyond have been dedicated to empowering civil society organizations to build sustainability by providing practical tools and skills. By highlighting the needs and shortcomings of civil society, these reports aim to bring to organizations the knowledge gained on how to strengthen their resistance to disinformation and enable effective adaptation of their strategies in the changed social context.
