With the support of CIVICUS, and in partnership with the Civic Literacy Initiative, the Metamorphosis Foundation is implementing the Digital Democracy Hackathon project–which aims to encourage the development of innovative digital solutions to advance democracy and strengthen the civil society sector.
The hackathon is part of the broader Digital Democracy Initiative, a project implemented globally by CIVICUS.
Project objectives:
- Creating innovative digital solutions that will advance democratic participation:
- Support and networking of the civil society sector in the countries in focus;
- Encouraging regional cooperation and solidarity among young activists;
Activities within the project:
- Open call for applications–for teams from 13 countries in focus;
- A five-day hackathon in Bangkok, Thailand–five selected teams will work on developing their solutions with support from mentors and a jury;
- Grant and mentoring support–for further development and testing of solutions in the period November 2025–February 2026;
Countries in focus:
Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Ukraine, and Turkey.
Topic areas:
- Disinformation and fact-checking;
- Digital security and rapid response;
- Safe organizing and reporting on human rights;
- Youth local activism.
The hackathon is aimed at teams representing civil society organizations that want to develop digital tools, platforms or campaigns to address key challenges in the digital age. Participants will gain access to expert mentoring support, technical resources, and the opportunity to turn their ideas into real, impactful solutions.
