Thirteen companies replied on the call for allocation of radiofrequencies for services in mobile telephony announced by the Agency for electronic communications under pressure by the Government.

Nine international and four domestic companies applied for third mobile operator. The Law on electronic communications predicts announcing a tender for allocation of radiofrequencies if there are not enough radiofrequencies for all applicants.

The Agency for electronic communications informed that there will be one more call asking the interested companies to provide opinion about the price for the radiofrequency. Then the Government should declare whether it agrees with the offers, and then the tender will be announced for allocation of radiofrequencies.

Considering the fact that the two public calls will be announced within 30 to 60 days, it is certain that there will not be third mobile operator in Macedonia until mid 2007. Sources from Agency for electronic communications informed that there are no brand names of telecommunications giants among applicants. Yet, there is a possibility such companies to apply later during the procedure.
