The lecture held by Metamorphosis Program Coordinator Filip Stojanovski focused on personal data protection in Macedonia in 2009 and during the first half of 2010. The results from the regular monitoring of Metamorphosis in this area were presented, as well as the relevant draft-report released in June.

During the discussion with the students, when they had the opportunity to ask questions related to privacy issues associated with their use of mobile phones and the internet, several publications available in the form of e-books and aimed at better informing the public were also presented: the two editions concerning the Law on Personal Data Protection and the Rulebook on technical and organizational measures for ensuring secrecy and protection of personal data processing of the Directorate for Personal Data Protection and FOSIM, as well as the comic book “Under Surveillance”, published by EDRI.

In order to familiarize the students with the work of NGOs advocating for greater protection of privacy, the example of a widespread civil action against the unconstitutional amendments to the Law on Electronic Communications was presented.

The lecture was held as part of the activities aimed at public awareness raising within the framework of the Online Privacy Initiative project.
