Murtezani: Women should step out of the comfort zone, the IT sector has a lot to offer for those who enjoy science and technology

North Macedonia is making progress in its digital transformation, but it’s still not at the same level as many EU countries. The importance remains for organizations and government to educate citizens and provide the necessary tools and resources to help them understand and adopt digital technologies. Women should step out of their comfort zone, the IT sector has a lot to offer for those who enjoy science and technology.

This, among other things, was said by Drita Rustem Murtezani, special advisor for ICT to the Minister of Information Society and Administration, Admirim Aliti in an interview for Portalb.mk.

How do you see the development of digital transformation in North Macedonia and taking into account the EU standards, how would you rate the current situation in this field on a scale of 1-10?

North Macedonia is making progress in its digital transformation, but it is not at the same level as many EU countries. The country has a relatively high penetration of internet and mobile telephony, but there are still significant differences in access and their usage, especially in rural areas. The government has prioritized the development of digital infrastructure and implemented various initiatives to promote digital skills and e-commerce. However, there are still challenges that need to be addressed, such as the lack of funding for digital projects and the lack of qualified IT professionals. In general, the digital transformation of North Macedonia is ongoing and the country is making efforts to reach the EU standards.

What is your message to girls who want to do computer science?

I think there is a misunderstanding about the IT sector and the opportunities it offers, there are many different areas available for new staff, such as cyber security, robotics, and artificial intelligence. These are fast-moving, exciting fields for women looking for interesting and challenging careers.

My message to women is to step out of their comfort zone, the IT sector has a lot to offer for those who enjoy science and technology. With the impact of artificial intelligence and applications of quantum informatics have, things just got a lot more interesting and there is a lot to learn.
