Representative of the ACTION SEE network participated in the 10th International Conference on Sustainable Solid Waste Management held in Crete in the period 21-24 June 2023. Bojana Vujucic from the Divac Foundation participated in the conference and presented her author’s paper on the state of solid waste management in Serbia.

The conference aimed to address the significant issue of sustainable solid waste management through the promotion of safe practices and effective technologies. The conference focused mainly on modern solid waste technologies. It stimulated the interest of scientists and citizens and informed them about the latest developments in the field of municipal solid waste management. Source separation, biological treatment, treatment in central facilities, waste prevention, utilization of bio-waste, promotion of recycling, technologies from waste to energy and energy recovery, smart technologies for waste management, sludge management, agricultural and livestock waste, management of specific waste in streams (construction waste, waste electrical and electronic equipment, etc.), biotechnology, best available techniques, symbiosis networks, energy consumption and conservation, carbon and water, zero waste initiatives, plastics and bioplastics, marine debris, were the main topics of the conference. Particular attention was paid to the prospects for valorization and products from solid waste, such as: biofuels, compost and materials.
