Biometric identification consists of determining the identity of a person based on biometric data such as a photo of their face, a fingerprint, a signature, etc. This data is then compared to the biometric data of several other persons kept in a database.

Electronic ID card uses broader databases to quickly verify the identity of the person, and it also has a qualified electronic signature that has the same validity as the handwritten one, thus enabling citizens to use available services fully online.
