Today, 9 December 2020, the Metamorphosis Foundation for Internet and Society, in cooperation with the Ministry of Information Society and Administration, launched the оnline platform for Open Government Partnership (OGP). The platform was created by the Metamorphosis Foundation for Internet and Society within USAID’s Civic Engagement Project, and it will be managed by the Ministry of Information Society and Administration (MISA).

The Open Government Partnership is a voluntary international initiative in which the institutions and the civil society cooperate in order to ensure transparency and accountability of the authorities before citizens. The main goal of OGP is to provide concrete commitments from governments to promote transparency, support civic participation, fight corruption and use new technologies in public administration and beyond by supporting innovation.

The event was addressed by the Minister of Information Society and Administration, Jeton Shaqiri, and the Director of the USAID Office for General Development in North Macedonia, Dawn Carmin, who pointed out that “As the 10th anniversary of the joining of the Republic of North Macedonia in the Open Government Partnership in 2011 approaches, it is important to renew commitments to improve access to information, fiscal transparency, use of open data and access to justice, as well as focus on many other urgent priorities and commitments. We, from the United States Government, are here to work with you on these commitments.”

Bardhyl Jashari, Executive Director of the Metamorphosis Foundation, stressed the importance of building partnerships between governments and citizens, civil society organizations and companies in shaping national policies and creating national legislation, strategies and initiatives.

The online platform for Open Government Partnership will provide additional value to the OGP process in North Macedonia, as it gathers all stakeholders in the process in one place and provides a range of tools for their involvement in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of National OGP Action Plans. Metamorphosis Foundation for Internet and Society within USAID’s Civic Engagement Project actively participates in the preparation of the National OGP Action Plans and activities that contribute to improving the mechanisms that guarantee the involvement and partnership between institutions and the civil society as a basis for building a democratic society.

USAID’s Civic Engagement Project enhances the constructive participation of CSOs in policies and issues regarding anti-corruption, transparency, and rule of law, and enhances and sustains youth participation in the public life in North Macedonia.
